How to Unpatch a single universe of Addresses?

As usual, I'm probably missing something obvious but I've come across this before and not found a solution.

I have a touring show that uses four universes of DMX. Universe 1 is for house dimmers and so is the only one that varies from venue to venue. However, I cannot just unpatch this universe (Address 1 THRU 512 @ [ENTER]) as that removes all my labels and all other patch data. CHANNEL @ [ENTER] doesn't delete patch data (just unpatches it if I remember correctly) but of course only helps if the addresses you want to unpatch are consecutive

Any ideas?

Cheers, Liam.

  • I'm assuming the data is channel labels ?, and that you want to retain all that text ?.

Only thing I can think of is doing a channel label file - I.E. a dummy patch for universe 1 that has all those channel labels, but no actual addresses assigned. Save that file on a thumb drive.

I'm also assuming you key in all addresses to channels manually when you get to the next venue ?.

So, clear the old U1 patch, then maybe do an advanced merge of the channels whose labels you need, which should add in the text labels, but that has no addresses assigned, then do the manual channel to address assignments, which does not clear or over-write the text labels.

Note that I have no access to the OLE to actually test this operation, so it's a bit of a guess.

  • Hi, indeed I do want to keep all the labels, not to mention all the Channel Database entries!

It seems very counter intuitive that I can unpatch the CHANNELS very easily and still leave all the labels and database information but of course I don't want to unpatch everything so have to do it on a channel by channel basis! (Not to mention part by part basis with fixtures that have multi-parts on differing universes!)

I am sure that you're plan will work, but I'm still going to have to unpatch all the channels I don't want individually to create my blank "dummy" patch

I was trying to find a way round using the QUERY (as I've labelled everything!) but the best i can do is [QUERY}{DIMMER} which works up to a point but ignores all my scrollers - It seems query doesn't distinguish between parts

At least my Channel order is fairly sensible - I can at least unpatch blocks of channels in one go.

    Thanks, Liam.

  • Record a macro as you are creating the channel list being un-patched.  Then all you do his run the macro.
