Scrollers and GoToCue

I need to add same situation but run Cue 1 then director skips cue 2 and calls 3 next.

Using AutoMark, it will only mark the light the cue before you have the light coming up with the color move. So Q 2 will mark the red scroller for Q3. 

In your first example, if you go Q1, Q7, Q3, assuming that you haven't changed your scroller color between Q3 and Q7, when you jump back to Q3 your scroll will be in the correct color. Note though that if the channel with the scroller is on in Q 7 and you jump there from Q 1, you will see a live scroll to the red as the light fades up as the light hasn't been marked yet since you never hit Q 2. 

In your second example, if you skip to Q 2 and go straight to Q3 from Q1, your scroller will not Mark. 

If you know that you are going to be jumping around between Q's, your best bet is to manually Mark the color as early as possible. If you are using AutoMark for the rest of the show, you will not be able to use the Mark feature of the console, but you can do it the "old fashioned" way and just put your scroller channel in Red in Q 1.

I would never intentionally plan a cue list knowing they will run out of order.  These questions came up becasue one never knows what can happen with humans on stage and/or a human calling out cues that can very possibly suddenly change.

Soooo not quite sure how going from Q1 to Q7 then to Q3 would show correct color when it was marked in Q2 that was never activated.  Hummmm.

My guess all along was if cues are skipped when relying on marks then expect the unexpected and possibly try to change the timing of the intensity slow enough to get the color positioned first.

This is the exact same situation I've encountered running a show from subs,  At least on my current console I can "bump" the scene or sub that has the scrollers stored on it just a tiny bit (1%) to rotate them to the correct color, then when I bring up the correct scene they are in position.  Of course the only problem would be if the particular scrollers were already being used in the current scene.  I hate scrollers when the show goes out of order :-)

So as I gather you are confirming they will show if out of order, unless luckilly they are already at that color.

Regarding your comment from going from 1 to 3 and it will not mark.  does that mean 3 will not show red or 3 will show scrolling to red?

The reason Q1, Q7, Q3 works is because of the nature of the tracking console. Once an item is set to something, it will continue to do that  action until it is told otherwise. GOTO cue will put the console into the full state of that cue regardless of what cues were actually run beforehand.  Since Q3 told the scroll to be in red, it is still in red in Q 7. That way when you jump backward, it is already there. 

Also, FYI Q 2 does not actually contain the information for the light that is turning red. While Q2 is the marking cue,  it is actually pulling its data from Q3. ETC developed a pretty ingenious Mark system. It is based off of Reference data. Meaning that the cue that marks is told to look to a later cue (the reference cue) to get its data. This way if you set a light and tell it to mark, and then later change what that light does, you do not need to update the mark.  If Auto Mark is enabled, the light will always mark the cue prior to the cue with the move data. You will also see a M in the M column in the cue list display. If you look at the channel that is marking, you will see that it has a Green Mk in the intensity and Q3 in the color column. You now know that the light is Marking for Q3. If you hold down the Data Key (Shift D offline), it will show what that light is actually to.

If Auto Mark is disabled and you are marking manually, when you mark a light, in addition to seeing the M next to the cue that is doing the marking, you will also see a R next to the cue that the mark data is being pulled from (The Reference Cue)

In regards to the subs at 1% and presetting NIPs, The Eos/Ion has this same functionality. You just need to change the sub type from Proportional to Intensity Master. Then you can either move the fader, or hit the bump button.

And yes, if you go from Q1 to Q3 the light will not Mark so you will see the light scroll from wherever it is to Red.

I was not trying to imply that you didn't know what the cue list was doing or the show was going to be while plotting the lights. I was just trying to be helpful. I was trying to guess at your scenario based off of my own experience that lined up with your question. 

In any case, one other possible suggestion. I often don't use Auto Mark as it will only Mark a light a Cue early. This can cause problems if you have cues that are called very close together and sometimes overlap each other. Or as you mentioned, the SM jumps a cue, or a director changes something. To Manually Mark many people have their own preferences of how to do it. Personally I record the cue. Once I'm happy and its all saved, I go blind, then [Chan X] [Mark] [Cue Y] [Part 9] [Enter]. I try to Mark all lights in the first cue of a scene, or sometimes as far back as I can. I Mark in a Part Cue as it makes it a bit easier to change the timing of the Mark, and I see a Part 9 much quicker than the M in the attributes column. 

I hope that clears things up a bit. Sorry that I wasn't clear enough before. 

Don't you just love typing communciation.  Anyway thanks.  It's a new concept for what i'm used to working with.  I'll certainly have to play with it a while before putting it into working action.  I'm guessing the reason it doesn't mark when going from 1 to 3 but it does mark when going from 1 to 7 then to 3 is because in the first instance the reference q had not yet been used or passed?

Again, will need to do some practical practice.

If you use the LOAD key on the playback instead to GOTO CUE, would that set all marks etc ready to playback the cue, that way you also preserve the cue timing rather than using the default goto time.

So CUE 1/7 ENTER LOAD (on the appropriate cue list) then hit the GO button. Im not sure what results this would have with auto mark, i would imagine it should auto mark the next cue loaded in the list.

Ah, Load. Good suggestion Oily. I hadn't thought about it. But now playing with it some...

Load can be tricky.  Scenario. You are in Q1. Lets say your scroller is in Blue, but not on. 

Q2 is the Mark Q that tells the scroller to be in Red.

Q3 Scroller is in Red and the intensity comes up. 

If you are in Q1 and the SM puts you in standby for Q3, you realize "Oh crap, we are skipping Q2". You CUE 3 ENTER. LOAD.  Your scroller will mark and you are ready to hit go and everything will look great. Awesome!!

Ok, except this time you are in Q1 and the SM puts you in standby for Q4. In this case, Load will be useful as it will preserve your Q timing, but it will NOT mark the scroller because Q4 has no command for the scroller, so its just assumes that it is tracking. When you press Go, you will get a live scroll as the light fades up

BUT you can trick the console. If you happen to know that the scroller comes up in its color in Q3, if you LOAD Q3, wait until the Mark happens, and then Load Q4 and hit go, everything will be dandy. 

That make sense?

Also if you do ever want to do a GOTO Cue but preserve the Cue timing, just add a TIME to the end of the command.

so GOTO CUE 7 TIME ENTER

Fair point tracking is not going to be your friend in a "out-er order playback situation" I guess if you are quick enough to load the last block/reference cue prior to the cue you need you would be safe.......hit the button and prepare to be on the show report.

I think the obsession (shh i said it once i wont repeat it again) had some kind of preview the next cue in live function were it flagged channels that were used in the next cue. Handy.
