Controlling RGB LED devices with CMY

Hello.

Would it be possible to have an extra fixture personality file for LEDs, making them controllable through the CMY color mixing system?

When I am using mixed rigs with moving lights and LEDs, I find it to be very useful to create color palettes and effects with the same color mixing system for all of my color mixing fixtures, whether it's RGB or CMY color mixing fixtures. If the desk could do the thinking for me, than I wouldn't have to worry about the technical difference of the different color mixing systems.

Would it be possible to implement a fixture personality like this?

  • If you switch your Color Format, you can use Hue and Saturation to work with both RGB and CMY fixtures at the same time. Obviously the results you get are going to vary greatly depending on the fixtures which is why it's generally best to work with one type of fixture at a time.

    You can also use the color picker on multiple fixture types at once.

    Thanks for your reply. Your way to do it is obviously a good workaround.

    For me, I don't really use the H/S-colour system for selecting color for my fixtures. Neither do the designers I work with. They will ask me to make color palettes based on the CMY system because that's what they know. I would like to be able to control my LED fixtures in the same CMY system for this reason. Correcting my color palettes so they are accurate between different fixture types is something I do after creating palettes. Hope this makes sense to you. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

    Sure, I can see where you're coming from. I guess what you're looking for really, is a way to map CMY values onto real RGB values. I guess even if this was implemented any palette would still have to store RGB values as these are what's needed to be output to the fixture.

    The palette could store CMY values in my opinion. My thoughts would be to convert these values to RGB in the fixture personality file. So I can stick onto working in CMY color system with my designers and their combined rigs, and the desk is doing all the CMY-RGB converting in the background.
