Presets & Palettes

Hi

When I'm using a preset on a moving light in Cue 1 thru 3 on ch 1. Say in cue 1 ch 1I have a hard soft edge.  Cue 2 I want to have a hard edge.  I harden the edge in cue 2 then [update] [enter] Go back to cue 1 and the hard edge is now in cue 1.

Have I just updated the preset not the cue?  If so how do I get round this and tell the cue to just update the channel information not the preset info?

I tried turning it into a beam palette but his did the same thing.  Where's my mistake?

Cheers

  • When you hit [Update], before you hit [Enter], take a look at the screen that pops up in the CIA. This will tell you everything that you'll be updating if you press [Enter] to complete the command. In your case, the top line probably said Cue 2, and the line below it said Preset (#). Technically, you're not making any changes to the data stored in the cue - the cue only references the preset which you have just updated, so every cue (including Cue 1) will be changed.

For a small change  such as this (only one attribute changing, presumably the same purpose), I generally don't record a new Preset. Instead, you can hit the "Make Absolute" softkey that comes up when you select [Update], and this will update the cue data itself without affecting the Preset. Note that there is also a
"Ref Only" softkey, which does the opposite - it will update the preset/palette, but will not update any data within the cue. And the "All" softkey will of course update both the cue and the presets/palettes, as you've seen.

    Hope that helps!
