Confused about fader wing/submaster configuration/recording/playback!!!

"...if I have a submaster wing attached to my console, I can simply assign the submaster to be on one of my faders.."

This is a quote from the Ion Fundamentals Training DVD Disc 1, Section 2-2, Chapter 19. Unfortunately, he does not specify how one goes about assigning the submaster to a fader. I am just learning the board, and find recording cues to be quite intuitive. I can also record Subs, the same way, but am not able to connect those with the fader wing. Thanks for your help!

  • Unlike on the Express(ion) series of consoles, the number of a submaster is no longer related to what fader it is assigned to. If you've already recorded a sub, type that sub into the command line and terminate the command - something like [Sub] [4] [Enter]. Now just go over to the fader wing and find what fader you want to put the sub on. Hold down both of the buttons associated with that fader at once, and this should load that submaster to that fader. You can also load cue lists to a fader in the same way.

    Hope that helps.

  • You can also assign all of your subs to your fader wing by creating your subs in live or blind (Blind. Sub 1 thru thru 300 enter). Go to live. Press Sub 1 thru enter (selects all of your subs). Press the load buttons (double hit both buttons associated with the fader) for the first location to be mapped.
  • The training resources are great, but bear in mind that they're a couple of years old now, so any features added in that time (I think the videos were based on the v1.7 software) may alter the way some features work.

The most disruptive changes I can think of off-hand would be subs not being auto-assigned to faders anymore, and the swap key now being the tab key, and behaving differently. It can help to keep the v1.8, v1.9 and v1.9.5 manual supplements nearby so you can check if the feature you're trying to use has changed significantly since the videos were released.
