ION fixture edit

As I understand the procedure an ETC created fixture in the library cannot be modified, therefore in order to custom fit a fixture it needs to be copied then edited and that copy used.  Well it appears that when a copy is made all the basic parameters are copied however specifics aren't.  Colors only show Color 1, Color 2, etc.  As well as gobos, etc.  The specific color or gobo don't get copied over.

Soooo how can we input the specific manufactures colors or gobos back into that fixture so the color picker will work properly, or the gobo will actually show up in ML controls, etc?  I need to make a change to a factory fixture ONE color only and have to recreate a whole fixture to do so.

Help please.

  • Off the top of my head, patch the channel with your new personality, and then at the bottom, go to attriubutes. You should then be able to tell the desk what pre-configured gobo / colour disk is in there, or even make your own!

  • Thanks.  Actually I finally figured it out.  Activate the particular fixture or group of fixtures in patch.  Go to attributes.  Select either Color, Gobo or Beam to open.  Select Copy and a new Color, Gobo or Beam is created with the same parameters and will name it New Wheel (#). Click whatever parameter you want to edit and click edit.  That will take you to the previously created selection of Color, Gobo or Beam.  Then choose what you want.  I found you may have to slide around from your brand model fixture to a different model of your brand of fixture to find what you want because what you want to install may not be something standard to that fixture.

For example I wanted to change one of the green colors in my Robe Color Spot 250 AT to orange.  There is no Robe orange in that fixture selection so I had to click on other Robe fixtures to find that Orange.

If you want to start from scratch then just create a "new" wheel.  Again you have to move around from model to model to find what you want if you have non standard colors, gobos, etc in your custom fixture.

Once all is done then click label and name the new wheel whatever you want.  It won't place it alphabetical though in the WHOLE list, only in the top of the list where custom stuff is.  A little more work to have to scroll all the way back to the top of the selection list to find it when you are already in your fixture.  I labeled it Robe custom color wheel but it didn't put it with all the Robe wheels because it's a custom wheel I guess.

Anyway, it's done and i'm happy.  I do want to find out how to categorize items though.  I've discovered I need to go to the Form key to set strobing because strobe is in the Form section not in the Shutter section and ION has a "shutter" key.  A little confusing.

  • A little confusing, I agree. But the shutter page I think was more intended for the shutters like those in a VL1000as (like shutters in a source 4). It does make sense when using units like those!
