Clearing zeros in ION

Hi Jeff!

Maybe the [Clear]+[Enter] Command is what you are looking for?

[1]  [Thru]  [7] [5] [Clear]+[Enter]  make those unmanual, [Clear]+[Enter] without channel selection frees all channels.

Be aware that freed channels have to get a move instruction or an assert to come back to their cue-status

I'll try Clear + Enter tonight.

Forgive my ignoarance but I am used to working for 25 years on non-tracking consoles and I just don't understand why there isn't a function key to actually shut off and "clear" a channel completely.  I really don't want to record a bunch of zero channels in cues, subs, etc.  I would think that 1 @ 0 should put channel 1 at zero but 1 @ out should do just that, take it completely out, no manual showing, no red, nothing, just a blank fixture icon.  Yeah 0 is a fade and out is instant, but why there isn't something to be able to clear all zeros as the operator chooses, I don't understand and maybe never will.

What started all this is I had been doing the Tea tutorials to help my finite brain comprehend this extensive and awesome console.  When I broke away from that and opened my actual set up "test" show everything changed as should (patch, NO cues, NO subs, etc) EXCEPT the live screen (flexi showing "patched channels") remained with the tea tutorial channel intensities.  I couldn't do a sneak because that just puts all those channels back to the last tea tutorial intensities.  I did a 1 thru 75 out because there were a bunch of various channels at various intensities between 1 and 75, and of courst that put them all at manual zeros.  Of course sneak again only puts them back to the last tea tutorial intensities.  I wanted to start with a fresh screen in a fresh first time ever done show.

I was told and it did work, that once a cue is recorded - going into blind those zeros which are then recorded, can be eliminated but having them there in the first place unless they are planned to be there for tracking, I didn't want.

I know I can set intensities then go to active channels to show only those active, but just another step.

I wonder why when opening a saved show the last show intensities comes up on the live window instead of how the show just opened left off or for that matter all blank.

Again, i'll try the Clear + Enter.  Can't wait.  If that works then all above is dust in the wind.

It would be horrible if it was another way. In fact, it was a great point pro EOS, because some other console could not load a new show without loosing active channels.

Very often after the morning rehearsal we have to start check and focusing channels for the evening play while programming of the rehearsal is not completed. So we finish the work on the rehearsal, while the second operator does the channel check. After programming is done, we save it and load the evening show. On stage you cannot see anything from that. The most important thing is to hold the directs for your HMI's and movers.

But every time you power off your console or load a new show and dont want to keep values for reasons I told above, you should release your parked channels (if there are)  [Park] [Enter] [Enter] and than then type [Go To Cue] [Out].

That will bring all your movers and scrollers to home and all values out. And than you have a fresh screen in a fresh first time ever done show...

 

Couple of thoughts.  My explanation was overly simplistic.  On a full stage record operation, Eos DOES throws zeros where it needs them.  So if you:

set channels 1 thru 5 at full

record cue 1

do a go to cue out

Record cue 2 - the desk will set zeros for 1 thru 5.  

It does not, however, do this on any sort of selective record action, which is a common practice for lots of different record targets.   Therefore, based on how you store, you may or may not have intensity values coming in from a previous cue.   Sorry, didn't mean to confuse you - was trying to keep it simple.

That being said, there is a huge difference in this desk between a null value and a zero.   In previous desks that you may have worked with, a null and a zero may have been treated the same.  It would probably be based on if your previous experience was on a desk with a single cue list/playback or multiple cue lists.   This is not true in a tracking, multiple cue list environment.  A zero and null are handled in very different ways - both in terms or storing data and in terms of playback of that data.   The red zero when you have overridden a playback instruction is a critical piece of information - not only for the desk, but for you and the designer.

-- Manual Control wins (until the playbacks give a new instruction)

-- HTP/LTP Winner from playbacks (Cues and Subs) sits behind manual control - until it provides a new instruction to manual data

-- Default Channel data (sits behind playbacks)

Jeff, I appreciate your patience with this.  Coming to a tracking system from a preset desk can be a big adjustment.  And sometimes it seems as though the "rules" are arbitrary.  They all have a very specific reason for being.

different ways different users use differently :-) i figured there had to be an answer. i guess after you load the evening show you unpark and gotocue out to start since its a different show thanks again jt

so clear + enter and GoToCue out both worked.

Also useful - GoToCue 0, which is for intensities only.

I *think* GoTo Q 0/out is what you were wanting to do -- the equivalent of clearing the faders and releasing captured channels on a preset board.
