Wierd homing behavior with Ion.

This has happened several times now. Every once in a while when I boot the console I get two home positions for my moving lights. The first being my home preset and the second is the home position but all irises fully closed.

If I hit home again the irises open up and all is well. When the irises are closed and I look at the lamps in "about" it tells me that the irises are fully open.

If I exit Ion  and do a deep clear then reload the show, everything is fine.

My system is  an Ion 1536

Software version 1.9.6.0.3

I have a RRFU connected and a net 2 node for the 3rd universe.

Any Ideas ??

  • What kind of movers are you using? You may want to verify that your libraries are up to date.  In patch if you select "edit" under the fixture library, it will give you a list of all the items you are using. Highlight the mover type and then at the bottom of the screen you will see "Update Lib". If that is not greyed out, then you should click on it to update the fixture attributes.  You should also confirm that you are using the proper fixture type (for example VL1000s in the console have like 9 different types). Check the manufacturers' manual.  Hope that helps!

  • HI Kearston.

    Thanks for your reply.

    I'm using Elation 575E's

I did as you suggested and checked to see if I needed to update the Library. But it was updated.

This problem happened again several days ago and I put a dmx tester on the output of the console and the console was in fact sending two different levels to the dmx address for the iris.  hmmmm??  So it must be some sort of bug.  I'll update to 1.8.  when it comes out and see what happens.

Again , Thanks for your reply Kearston.

    Cheers.

  • I had a similar issue with some CXI scrollers a while back. Hitting Home toggled between what the console thought was two different interpretations of 'Home.' I think in the end it was somehow related to the fact that the show file was imported & those channels were a different fixture type in the previous version of the show. Does the same behavior happen if you create a brand new show file?
  • I've run into the same issue with Mac 700 Iris', but only ever when working on a show file that has been imported from a strand. I did a bit of investigating, but it didn't cause a big enough issue to worry about, then I kind of forgot.

I'm sure this is to do with the fixture personality, but exactly what I'm not sure...

  • Yeah. I don't find it very worrisome either. I have found a new piece to the puzzle though.  The Ion and the Moving lights were up and running properly . I then took one of the moving lights and assigned it to an "Intensity Master" sub. That fixture then suddenly developed two home positions.  After I deleted the sub it went back to just one home position. Curiouser and curiouser.

  • Are you using a Preset for Home? (check Settings)

I don't know if it would be involved, but the board does have 2 types of Home.

  •   Following this with interest - out of nowhere, my VL1000 TIDs have recently forgotten what they are on start up, and its only after assigning and bumping them on an Intensity Master Sub that they remember to look at their home preset and library defaults, then they've been fine.  Weird!
