Master and Backup Control Issues

in our theatre, we've got our master console in a FOH booth, and our backup onstage in the ME's office. The ME starts the backup in the morning to turn on work lights, and I'll come in later in the day to take control of the system in the booth. Now I've got two questions for you.

1. Is there a way to setup the backup desk as a Backup | Master so I can start up the master desk and have it take control automatically?

2. The consoles start in the mode they were last in, not the mode selected in the shell. So if the backup desk is set to start as master, but is last used as a backup, it will start in backup mode. So every morning the ME has to take it out of troubleshoot mode and set it as master...

Matt helped me out, he suggested switching the master/backup status of the two desks.
