Adding Channels to an Existing File

Hello,

I've discovered that if you have an older EOS file and load it (I'm running 1.9.6), and then change the channel numbers to more than 1000, you have to go into patch and assign those channels a type before they are usable.  In the past, these channels were instantly usable.  This file uses partitions.  Is this a bug?

Thanks,

Eric

  • Eric,

I dont follow what you are trying to do.

    What syntax are you using?

  • Hi Tom,

I'm starting with a file that is set to 900 show channels in setup. When I change it to 1500 or 2000 or whatever, everything above 1000 is greyed out like it's been deleted, and you can't give it a level in live or blind or modify it at all until you go to patch and type chan 1001-1500 type Generic Dimmer.  Once you've done that, you can use the channels.  In older versions, you could change the show channels and use them without going to patch.

  • Hi Eric,

I have just tried a couple of things and i think your problem maybe that the channels were not patched in the orignal show file.

If you load a show file that only has 900 channels patched and the number of channel in setup at 900 shown and then up the channel number in setup it will add the channels but they wont be patched.

If you take a show file that already has the channels patched then up the number of channels in setup they will be useable.

You should be able to tell if the channels are already patched if you load a show file that has the number of channels at 900 and then go into patch you will be able to see all channel patched beyond 900.

  • Channels not being patched is not the issue.  I don't actually need them to be patched, I just need them to be able to accept information.  I often am in a situation where I have to move channels around, and the way I've always done this is move them from 1-400 to 1001-1400 and then copy them back to the new channels.  I can no longer do this without an extra step; the patch is irrelevant.

  • You can completely delete a channel, which will be displayed in patch without a border surrounding it. When you do this it will no longer appear in Show Channels Flexi and you can't give that Channel values. So you're right, you will need to 'create' the channels if they don't already exist as you have been doing.

  • The thing is, I didn't have to do this before v1.9.  Prior to that, if I changed the number of show channels, the new ones were immediately usable.  The workaround (entering patch and assigning them a type) isn't terribly onerous, but I'm curious as to why it's been changed.
