Ion running channel check on startup

Is there a channel check option in the settings that would cause the ION to run a channel check of all the dimmers before control of the faders is released to the use and the show file is loaded? My coworker has said that it does that on startup of the board. Also, could that be an issue that comes and goes? I myself have never seen it.

We've had this issue a couple of times since our last update. Not to mention the confusion of new movers and having to build profiles. Grr. That's a separate hair pulling session however.

Thanks so much ETC and fellow LDs/Programmers/Techs!

  • Is it really doing a channel check (as in all channels in order) or is it just randomly popping through dimmers? That sounds like it could be a DMX issue...how long has this been happening? How long have you had your board running on the most current version of software and does that correlate to the  random "channel check"?

  • I believe it has been more random than ordered. It seems like the problem only started this last week. And we've added the latest software within the last three weeks. We also have a second universe on wireless but lately I've separated that out and asked to not power that relay.

  • I guess it's popping through dimmers. This started just this week and we've had the new version of ION for about three weeks. Although we did have a show that kept crashing the board. ETC hasn't told me yet what the problem with that show file was. When I turn on the board I never actually see this occurance of channel popping. Hmmm, I don't think our timeline indicates the update is the problem.

  • This sounds more like a DMX issue to me rather than a chan check.

Ive seen bad DMX cable do similar things. Is it random dimmers or does it follow the same sequence of dimmers every time it does it?

Were any DMX/RDM devices added to your system a week ago? Was RDM turned on in any devices a week ago? An RDM discovery can do weird things sometimes.

Does this only happen when the ION boots or has it happened when the board has been up for a while?

What kind of dimmers do you have?

BTW the ION boots however it was left. So if there is multiple operators someone may be leaving a cue or effect running.

  • Hi.  Re: frustration over the need to build profiles for your fixtures.  Did you request the profiles from us if they are not in the current library?   There are a number of ways to do that.

    1)  You can request the profile here.

    2)  You can request the profile via email to eos@etcconnect.com

    3)  You can request the profile from your service contact.

    4)  You can drop me an email.

If you'd like to send me an email at anne (dot) valentino (at) etcconnect (dot) com, am happy to check to see if we have them in a library patch.  If not, we can get the profiles you need underway.

    Hope that helps.
