eos using ethernet as midi

Trying to find a way around paying 1200 dollars for a net3 show control gateway, and heard that ethernet can be used to send midi signals, even found some software that does it.

So the question is, will the eos send or accept MIDI signals through its Ethernet Port.

Also, why was MIDI capability included in the cheaper Ion console, but not in the high end Eos?

  • The answer to the specific question you asked is yes, as Eos uses ACN to transfer MIDI information between the Eos consoles and the Show Control Gateway.

However, the particular software you've found is almost certainly incompatible - "MIDI over Ethernet" is about as vague a description as it's possible to get.

    - Compare with the 40-50 incompatible ways of doing "DMX over Ethernet", many of which are proprietary like ETCNet2, MA Net and Strand ShowNet.
