changing to effect sub deletes submasters content

Hi all,

When changing the function of a submaster to being an effect submaster, it deletes the previous content that was there, without confirmation. Shouldn't this be a function where the desk asks for confirmation, so you are always still one <enter> press away from deleting some interesting submaster look?

Thanks and bye,

Mike Evers

  • Hi Mike,

I can see this could possibly be a candidate for confirmation, but there's always the old undo button!

  • Hi Daniel,

The old undo button (my personal best friend) would do just fine for me, thanks! :-)

I'm asking this question specifically for the novice users I'm training on Ion here in The Netherlands. I'd suggest making this function foolproof for all level of users.

    Thanks and cheers! Mike

  • In theory, if you are making a sub an effect sub, you are recording the sub from a running effect ?.

Thus the action of pressing Sub-Sub, then the softkeys to make the sub an effect sub, as well as the actions leading up to the recording - I.E. channel listing, Effect XX, Enter, seem to be a very deliberate series of steps to be taken.  How much more confirmation do you need to known that you are either 1) Recording over an existing sub which has a lit green LED, or 2) You need to place this effect somewhere, so pay attention and find an open sub.

Possibly if you are dumping the effect on a sub with a lit green LED there might be a caution window to state "Are You Sure", but given all the steps required, when I make an effect sub. I'm scanning the fader wing for a non-lit LED and will record the effect to that sub.

Possibly this is more an issue with virtual faders ?.

  • This is an issue because you can (accidentally) select Effect Sub when changing your sub mode from inhibitive back to additive. I am aware that experienced operators will not easily make this mistake, but I am training novice users and they seem to be uncomfortable with changing the sub mode and accidentally removing sub information. Hope this issue is clear to you.

  • Yup, now I see what your concern is.

The toggle action from Inhibitive to Effect to Additive will not by itself clear the contents, you have to terminate the command with the Enter key.

If you do so while the S1 key is sitting in EffectSub, instead of Additive for instance, it's Bye, Bye to the recorded contents.

Never had it happen, mostly as I'm paying attention, but can see your concern.

  • Hi guys.  Our intent is to mask the content that was originally stored with an additive sub if you toggle to effect sub.  If you go back to additive, that content will be restored.  On the list!

    Thanks much!
