delete sub doesn't delete fader assignment

Hi all,

I found out that deleting a sub that was assigned to a fader on Ion, does delete the sub but not the assignment to the fader. Is this a bug or a feature? Doesn't it make sense to delete the sub's fader assignment when deleting the sub itself?

Thanks and bye,

Mike Evers

  • I've been fine with the concept as I know that when I dump the sub, it's only erasing the channels levels in the sub as well as clearing the green LED indicator, so now I know the fader has no recorded look assigned to it and yet is still assigned to be a sub.  That's somewhat a legacy function from Express-Expression, where the subs stay as subs.  Clearing the fader completely so it has no function seems to take it to a 2nd level that's not needed.  Having to then clear the fader using the Fader Controls - Release function to load a cue list, always made sense to me.

So no, I have no issues with the current function.

  • Hey Mike, This is totally deliberate and a feature most of our Ion users really want--Since these are playback faders and the only way to map a submaster to them is to manually map it it only makes sense to leave it there (It does this on Eos as well) As a side note, it will become much easier to remove this mapping in 1.9.8 using the shift function that is being introduced. Is there a reason that you would want it to remove the mapping as well?
  • From my perspective, it's a matter of housekeeping. I work at a museum with Ion RPUs and an ION console, and we regularly change the lighting controls in the galleries. When an exhibit changes, I sometimes need to update the programming, and having a fader assigned to a deleted submaster, or worse, more than one fader assigned to the same submaster/cue list/whatever is annoying. I should note that I find it impossible to hold down the FdrCntrl button and then attempt to press any other button when working in the virtual keyboard of the offline editor. Any guidance to removing the fader assignments would be wonderful.
