Focus Effects move to position and stop?

I'm currently working on a show with some moving mirror fixtures. They want the mirrors to be able to move in an arc from one focus location to another. My initial thought was to program multiple focus points along the path and use cues and follow to make the move, but they would like to be able to easily adjust the timing. Is there a way to write an effect that will move and stop at a certain point? All I have been able to do is to get it to move along the path and then return home.

Thanks for the help!

  • Last time I did this I just used Q's and follows, then can adjust time.

If you HAVE to use a effect, can you write a second cue that puts the light into the final position, so when effect is complete and fades out the light thinks it is there?

In multiple Q way you can either fire them in a separate q list or make them follow 0 with a delay so that the q will move but still in the same time.

  • I wonder if you can use an absolute effect. I've never tried putting a focus preset into the Level field, but I know you can put Color and Intensity Pallets into Level, so why not Focus Pallets.

Set the Duration/Cycle to Num Cycles 1.

Then you can to adjust the timing you can either adjust the rate using the Live Effects status display, or click Cycle time in the Effects Editor and it will automatically even out the step times to equal the total time that you want.

Again, I'm totally speculating here, but if you give the moving mirror the final FP preset in the Q that fires the effect. Update the Q so the background position is the end FP. Then apply the effect and update again. When the effect finishes its cycle, I would think the channel would restore that to the background position which is the same FP as the last step of the effect.
