[ANSWERED] - Ion Outputs

Hey Everybody,

Its been about 8 months since I have had my hands on an ion and the new theatre I work at is looking to purchase one. We have a total ETC Net 3 system meaning I can use the ethernet jack as the data output rather than DMX, (Yay this will make moving the console for tech so much easier!)

One or two years ago I recall hearing a rumor that the output limit on a console only applied to the DMX ports, not the Ethernet port. Meaning that I could have 4 or more universes running from 1024 output ion. This sounds a bit preposterous to me, but it would be oh so awesome if it were true. Can anyone confirm or deny this rumor?

The only reason I ask is that we have somewhere near (or over) 500 dimmers in the space and a large amount of accessories. I also recall that Martin Atomic Strobes like to be on their own universe and we are looking to get a pair of those as well, so I need to make sure that I can fully support the space and future proof it without going too overboard with the outputs.

As always, thank you very much,

PJ Veltri

I'll let someone from ETC address (get it? address?) the first part, but as to the Atomics: it's a good idea to have them isolated on their own stream (i.e. opto-splitter output), but they needn't be the only devices on a DMX512 universe.  I've never really thought about it, but I suspect having them be the only devices on a node's output accomplishes similar isolation.
