Shift key uses

If you update your software to 1.9.8 you will need the shift key because some functions have changed. You can get a pdf of Eos family shortcuts in the download area. For example, in 1.9.8 to add a follow you press [Shift] + [Delay], to do a quick save you can press [Shift] + [Update], etc.

EDIT: The file you need to download that shows the new shortcuts is named "Eos Family v1.9.8 Facepanel Shortcuts, introducing [Shift]"

OK, I understood all that, but want to know how YOU use the added functions in 1.98, especially the Shift key and how it speeds up the programming.

I have an Ion (No Touchscreens), so a few things off the top of my head are plus and minus percents. Before the +% and -% used to be [n] [@][+][+] or [n] [@][-][-], now it's just [n][Shift][+] and [n][Shift][-] which is faster. It's easier to post parameters on the command line using the [shift][+][parameter] since the board knows that that is what I want it to do. In the past you just pressed the parameter, but that also paged the encoders. In the past to get channel selection options I had to press and hold [Select Active]. Now you press [Shift] & [Select Active] which will post the channel selection options to softkeys without continuously holding keys down. I'm not sure how switching between multiple instances of Live and Blind were done before, but it is done with the shift key now, which is done quickly. So by adding the shift key ETC is increasing the functionality (especially for added features in the future) of the consoles. It will definitely take a little getting used to, but any changes made to existing programming syntax will do that.

The Shift key was a change primarily to support having keystrokes on the down edge rather than the up edge (as in v1.9.6 and earlier). A lot of the functions that used to rely on timing of how long the key was held down (for example, holding Label) or holding 2 keys (for example, Update&Select) are now Shift functions.

The Shift + and Shift -, for +10% etc, as well as the Favorite on the CIA browser is enough to make me want to upgrade, which I'll do this morning.

I was fortunate to be @ ETC West Sat. for a training class. I, too, am looking forward to loading 1.9.8.

I also got to touch a GIO. When I saw a photo a while back, I thought not for me. Now, when I can afford it, I can see selling an Ion for a Gio. 

I bet I can still get a solid return on selling an Ion.
