Tab Numbering- a thought/suggestion

I can't for the life of me remember if I've suggested this before here on the forum, but I know I've mentioned it to several people before- so if I have written about it here already, please accept my apologies. I went back in my post history a little ways, and didn't see it.

Would there ever be a possibility of the tab numbers being sticky? Like tabs 1 and 2 are always the same screens right now, I would love it if- exclusive of the order I open a tab, that the number was consistent in other tabs, as well.

For instance- if patch was *always* tab 3.  Going a half step further with this, another benefit would be that if that particular tab is not already opened- [tab] + [3] would always open "patch".

I understand that this would allow for non-consistent/numerical tab numbering, but you have that anyway when you start closing tabs...and I can't think of any other reason where this would be bad practice.

Just a thought for a handy shortcut.  What do you think?

  • hi abby

i'm a keypad person rather than a screen person so i agree that it definitively would speed me up. as a work around you could open the tabs in the order you wish to make permanent and then save a snapshot (monitors only...). and when coming to the desk, execute the snapshot, so you have all screens numbered as you like them.

  • Consistent tab numbering has been discussed, but we've never come to any conclusion about it.   We could easily give all tabs a fixed number.  Should we do that, would you want to see the tabs ordered numerically or in the order that you open them?

  • If you decide to do so...

My vote is ordered numerically.  I think the number is easy enough to memorize, whatever it may be...and that way it's consistent across different desks and different users.

From a user perspective- I'm completely impartial to what number it is, as long as it stays the same.

From a training perspective- I think this will go a long way to helping new users understand the tabs/displays/navigation of screens a tad more easily.

Thanks for listening/considering!  Love that you all have your ears open- whatever you may ultimately decide.

  • As a new user to the Eos line, I agree that fixed tab numbering, whatever the numbers end up being, would help speed up programming.  The more things I can recall from memory instead of having to search for, the faster I can get the show in the console.  Having to remember what that day's numbering is would eventually get tiresome (I average 2 weeks of programming/tech per production), and I dislike building macros to do what could be (or used to be with older consoles) a simple function.

    Thanks!

ok, if there is a choice then i'm all for fixed numbering. i have a snapshot at the moment to make sure that i always know where my tabs are. and thinking about it, i guess i never used the tab key on its own, so to me it doesn't matter what tabs are next to each other. and since there is no key combination to tab back (or is there?!) i don't think there would be two tabs that have to be consecutive so one can tab back and forth between them without using numbers.

  • I'll add another vote for fixed tap numbering. But agree that they should display in numerical order when open, not the order that you open them.

  • not saying that the order should be numerical or in the order of opening, but couldn't it be helpful for those who like to tab through their displays, if they're still in order of opening? fixed numbering but in the order of opening would maybe be the variant that satisfies the most needs? just adding a new thought to the discussion. as long as there is fixed numbering, i don't care about the sorting. but maybe others do...

I agree.  After all, if you always want your tabs in a certain order, it would be trivial to add opening your tabs to a start up macro or put it into a snapshot.
