Intensity master releasing when it hits zero

Say, for example, I have a few moving lights programmed into a sub which is assigned to a fader and set as intensity master. When I move the fader off zero, it 'activates' and sends the movers to where they are programmed to be, and I can fade the intensities up with the fader. Then, when I bring the fader back down to zero I have to hit the flash button to 'release' the fader and send the movers back to where they were previously - is there any way to automate this, so that the fader releases when it's taken back to zero?

  • Gareth, not at the moment.  The intent of the bump button with NPs on an I-Master sub is effectively a "mark".  The fact that when you move the fader, the NPs are placed in their positions is sort of an "emergency" measure, in the event that you didn't mark the lights on that submaster.  Because we don't move things unless there is a need too, when an I-Master sub is returned to zero, the NPs are held at their current level until you unmark them or until they receive a new instruction.

If you use a proportional sub, the NPs can be restored upon release.  It sounds like you are looking for an I-Master on the upfade, but a proportional master on the downfade?

Not quite. I think what I'm looking for is an I-master on both up and downfade, but one which releases the mark as soon as the downfade hits zero.

What would be nice would be a submaster option to enable this feature when required. As well as Eos/Ion, I'm a semi-regular user of Chamsys MagicQ desks - they're not really a directly-comparable console to the Eos, I grant you, but they have the functionality to both activate and release a cue stack when its fader leaves or returns to zero, and that's the sort of thing I'm talking about .... letting a sub or cue list temporarily grab control of a bunch of fixtures from a 'main' cue list, and then hand control back to the main list either manually by hitting the bump button again to release them or (optionally) automatically when the fader is taken back down to zero.

  • I'm with Gareth.  I use it as a standard way of operating and its inconvenient that it doesn't release when it goes back to 0 percent.  I also have a question/request.  Can I change the timing of the "mark" on a Intensity Master Submaster?  It currently snaps to position but it would be nice if I could change the time.

  • There is a rework of the Fader controls in the pipeline.  These kind of issues are on the radar.

  • Wow! Resurrection of a thread that's nearly two and a half years old! But still relevant, as it's something I'd really like to be able to achieve. What sort of timescale are we looking at for the potential implementation of this (if, in fact, it's part of the forthcoming 'rework')?

  • It's hard to be specific without just making something up.  The next few software releases are scheduled to target live playback issues.  Faders are at the tail end of that work.   The Fader rework is meant to be a full re-imagining of how the desk deals with the playback and is not small in scope.

"Release on 0%" is one fader attribute of many that is part of that work.

It's taken a long time to get here - a little skepticism is probably warranted - but for the first time it is seriously on the table.

If you've got a laundry list of playback desires feel free to post them.  I'd be happy to talk them down point by point to make sure we're all pulling in the right direction.

  • Not related to playback but I'd still very much like to see the user manual included in the console as it is in Congo - there have been a few times I needed a specific instruction in the field but no access to the manual so had to table it or hope the forum grabbed it quickly. I've been told it's on the list a few times. Hoping lots!!!

  • Adding also the ability to either edit it or make notes. Example: Element manual says to stop effect use certain softkeys however there is no mention how to get those softkeys showing - need the command line completely clear. Be nice to add that or note it.

& a question or suggestion regarding stop effect - can a softkey be added when in effect status so user can select a particular effect then stop effect or click stop effect then either enter for all or a # then enter for specific? It would have to be a "More SK" of course.

  • Keeping focus on Effects/Live Playback :-)

The Stop Effect command can currently be pointed at a specific effect - but it's a little buggy.  If you type [Effect] and a specific effect number you can amend [StopEffect] to that.   When you open the ESD and hit a specific running effect the effect posts to the CL with an Enter diamond - this prevents the Stop Effect key from pointing to that specific effect.

A Macro like [Select Last][Select Last][Stop Effect][Enter] would achieve your goal for now.   [Effect] - opens the CIA - you select a running effect from the list and then hit your stop effect macro.

Adding StopEffect/Resume as soft keys in the ESD is more a question for Anne.   There are changes coming to the ESD - but I don't recall Stop Effect being on that list.
