apollo roto-q rotators

  Hi everyone

A client has brought in 4 Apollo Roto Q gobo rotators (and no manual).  The rental shop they come from claim they only use 1 channel of DMX; that both gobos rotate, but in opposite directions; with 50% = no movement, 100% is full speed 1 direction, and 0% is full speed the other direction.

The Ion (version 1.9.8) has a profile for Roto Q, but assigns it 2 dmx channels.

The units are old enough to have dials for assigning their addresses.

Help please.  Are they one address or two?  Should I use the Ion's profile, or find a generic single channel rotator profile?

 Thanks.

  • Thanks for the manual.  That was it.

However, having used the Ion personality for them (1.9.8), I couldn't get them to stop spinning at beam at 50%.  Even holding down DATA to see the true percentage, and rolling the BEAM encoder to 49.1 and 50.9, the rotators kept spinning (albeit very VERY slowly).

This wasn't a problem, so I didn't need to muck around building jump cues to send them to 0% (where they were stopped) .

Also, I had to build a home position for them, since the supplied home was 0%.  Is that to be expected?  I would have thought that 50% was home.

    Thanks.

    Andrew.

  • Andrew,

0% is the correct home position and 50% is where the unit switches directions.  This is according to the Apollo documentation.  On a lot of fixtures, 50% is used as home, but not for this one.

There looks like a small issue with the Index modes on our side, but not enough for the unit to not work with the desks profile.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

  • I'm having a similar problem. I'm running 6 of these on an ION (1.9.12) and I cannot control them. The Index Speed seems to change the direction, but I have no control over this using the encoder. I spin the encoder wheel but the number doesn't change. Can you tell me exactly how to control these?
