Has anyone successfully used Windows 7 to set up an X-Keys Pro SE with the .xk2 file from the ETC website? I'm having problems getting Macro Recorder to recognise the X-Keys device.

Hi Gareth,
I spoke with PI Engineering last year about this issue. It is not currently possible to set up an X-Keys Pro SE using a Windows 7 computer. This has to do with a driver issue for programming the device, which is only available up to Windows XP. Both Vista and 7 will be unable to program them (though it still works in the operating mode).
The MWII devices (newer model) can be reprogrammed on Vista/7 machines (using different software from X Keys), but pre-SE and SE devices have this limitation.
If you do have questions, let us know, though the support over at PI Engineering may be able to help as well.
Thanks!
Hans
Thanks, Hans, I had a feeling this might be the case. We still have a couple of machines running XP, so I'll have to use those.
On a related note, has anyone noted that it doesn't seem to be possible to map the 'z' key onto an X-keys button and use it as a Shift key with Eos? The X-keys doesn't seem to be able to send two simultaneous key-presses to the computer - holding 'z' and pressing 'd' on the computer keyboard, for example, correctly posts a Follow command to the command line, but it doesn't work via X-keys (although looking at the X-keys input in a simple text editor proves that the mapping is correct).
Hey gang,
Actually, you can, but it depends on how you map the keys. We have found that if you map the "press" of the key to the "down" of the button you want and the "release of the key to the "up" of the button, you can get it to hold a key while pressing another (i.e. for things like shift+delay=follow). In the X-keys software, there is a choice for the "down" of a key or the "up" of a key (I think it's a pull down in the macro edit). We found it was easier to map the key stroke to both the "down" and the "up" and then delete the pieces we didn't need.... I'm sorry I don't have the exact syntax in front of me
We came up with a decent layout that uses both the green and red layers. I would be happy to pass on the file and the key layout of anyone was interested....
HTH,
dave B.
Thanks for that, Dave - mapping 'z down' to the key press and 'z up' to the key release does the job.
On a separate note, I'd be very interested in looking at your X-keys layout for Eos if you're happy to share - if possible, could you e-mail the file and layout to me on gareth[at]ctclx[dot]co[dot]uk? Many thanks.
