Ion lags as client

I have an 2k Ion (client) connected to two 4k RPUs (master, backup), all running 1.9.9 (first version of 1.9.9)...
We've been experiencing some weird display refresh issues....

shift+time display different values from press to press in live/blind

shift+time display different values from Ion to PC (w/client dongle)

update screen lags before it updates it's refresh what's being updated (miniscule lag, but still frustrating when trying to program fast)

null values display inconsistently from blind/live

null values display inconsistently from [go] or [goto] or [back] or [go to cue next/last]

values show up as "disabled" in the dmx column in about/patch (output), even though they are outputting correctly

some of these issues show up consistently and/or i can recreate them (specifically the Update dialogue, Null and Disabled display issues).  Other issues come and go...

I haven't ever setup/run a system quite like this before, nor an I am ETC regular...
I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced similar issues... ?

thank you!

  • That sounds like issues I was recently having...

I execute my 2/ list shortly after intermission(attached to list 1/), It is for a video trigger and only affects one channel.  For 2 or 3 shows, it would not change values (although the move was in my list, and I had not made any changes to my program since a successful run of shows).

I tried reloading the show to no avail, and after playing around some more as reloading my last successful show serveral times.  After a few tries it started working again,  This is my first show at this venue, and I was told to operate as client 1 my first day (backing up to server).  Around the time of my problems, I found out I should actually be running the ion as a backup.

Haven't had any problems since....Perhaps the "client" is locking out some info and/or a weird software glitch? I see you have rpus as your master/backups, I would try running your Ion as the backup and see what happens (assuming you don't have multiple clients).

I have been scratching my head over this one for the past few weeks, and after reading your post it all is starting to come together.  Very curious to see if my theory is correct.

    Hope this helps,
    MM

  • Yea... this is a new install... the general consensus from all the ETC techs on site that this is an issue operating as client... but in our situation our Eos's are RPU (rack mount), so the only way to program is through the Ion as client.
