Color Blaze TRX 6ft RGBAW 16B 4"

I've seen the posts with various workarounds to enable single cell control of the Color Blaze units when patched as generic RGB units on the ION/EOS - has there been any resolution with getting the actual profile to work correctly? i.e. when patching the ColorBlaze 72s with the ClrBlzTRX 6ft RGBAW 16B 12" profile can you actually control each segment individually as intended?

  • Hi,

The reason for having all the various "size" profiles is so that you can use the fixtures as is when going into a new space/renting/demoing etc.  Its a lot easier to "dumb down" the fixture from just the console (assuming you have the outputs) than having to climb up to the fixture change the mode and addressing scheme and change the console profile...

This allows you to control a single 72" fixture with a single channel and have fixture control, or with 6 12" channels for individual cell control.

The profile does what it was designed and intended to do, control a 72" fixture with as a single channel...

Same situation exists for the ETC Seladors:  11,21,63 just gives you grouping control while leaving the fixture in full individual address "mode".  I would use the 63 as one giant fixture, 3-2 Cell Fixtures, or 6-1 cell fixtures all with a quick console patch change...

Another issue, imagine having 12 pages of color control (RGB/HS for each cell).  Its a lot easier to control it as 6 fixtures...

Not to mention trying to create 6 individual discrete times for each cell within a single channel, or create an effect using the fixture...

I get this question a lot when doing trainings, hence all the scenarios...

  • excuse my ignorance, but i don't follow - are you suggesting to leave the fixture assigned as a single group or multiple groups? if i want to control individual 4" cells of the ColorBlaze72 please explain how to go about patching and controlling each cell - thanks so much for the walk-thru

  • I believe he is saying that you should leave the fixture set to 4in cells but simply patch 18 single color blast trx 16b fixtures.  don't use the profile for the 72in fixture, i know i know, annoying.  I ran into this problem with 48in fixtures, i tried making my own profile that was more elegant, however, i found it less cumbersome as a programmer to have each cell be its own fixture.
