MIDI question on an ION, version 1.9.10

We are triggering a Mac Mini running QLab with our Ion and wondering if we can make it a little easier.  Currently we have a second cue list running MIDI strings via external link fired by a submaster bump button.  It works handily, but during playback, it changes cue lists every time the MIDI cue is taken.  This is a problem during tech as my operator has to be very careful when editing cues as she might be in a different list.  We are wondering if there is a cleaner way to fire the MIDI on one of the submaster buttons than using cues.  She needs two go buttons on this, so we don't want to merge it with the master list (yet).

  • Do you mean the playback status display changes which cue list is visible.

You can have more than one cue list active at the same time, so if your just after having your lighting cue list always visible then you can lock the status display via the lock in the top left hand corner.

  • That helps, but when we are updating cues in the master list, my programmer has to make very sure that she types "Cue 1 / Enter" before working on anything. Taking a MIDI cue puts the command line into the second cue list.  I'm trying to find a way to spit out MIDI without using cues yet still using the submaster bump buttons.

At least the designer isn't freaking out not seeing his cues anymore.  Never thought about locking it.

    Thanks!

  • So are you sending MSC from cue list 2?

I'm afraid my experience has been limited to running shows the other way. Controlling my lighting cues from QLab as I was led to believe its a bit easier as you have to make sure your cue list numbers on the Ion sync up with the Qlab numbers. I'm sure you're probably too far into programming, so its not too helpful :(
