Multiple dimmers ?

OK, this has nothing to do with movers or anything as complicated.

But...

I downloaded the version 1 manual a while back and have done searches on both the Adobe manual as well this forum and want an answer to a simple question.

Does Eos/Ion allow multiple dimmers to be brought up in whatever it calls Stage or Live mode ?.

This was always a huge complaint among Expression/Express users, simply the ability to bring up multiple basic good old dimmers at the same time - as in: Dimmers 1 AND 2 AND 3 thru 15, or whatever to full, Enter.

Without having to go into the Park page.  Doing this from the RRFU.

Anybody got an answer ?

  • I'm not sure whether this exactly matches what you want to do but I was calling up dimmer ranges yesterday in Live; [More SK], {Address} x thru y @ z enter - this sets the specified range of addresses to the specified value. However as soon as you clear that from the command line the dimmers go off, which may or may not be what you want. Also I don't know about RRFU.

  • You can do this, but as David stated, you will lose this when you clear the command line (by design).

Doing this in Park is probably the cleanest way, though, as you can do the same but not lose them until you wish. You can also quickly unpark everything by simply giving a Park Enter command.

Given that you can also park directly from the Live command line (eg 1 + 2 At 25 Park Enter), and that Park is a mode on the radio remote - does that help?

  • Thanks for the replies and I believe you've answered my question, which seems to be that YES, multiple dimmers can be set at level in a live/stage mode from the RRFU.

It also appears that the Park functionality has changed somewhat (I'll be doing some more manual reading).

The general complaint (in Express/Expression OS) has always been the inability to access multiple dimmers from RFU - I.E. "Dimmer 1 AND 5 @ 50", etc....  Yes you could always use Park, but then lose the ability to use + and - for single dimmers as needed.  Park also tends to get used a lot for keeping things ON that you don't want OFF (relays ?, DF-50's, etc...) thus doing the usual Dimmer - Release - Enter - Enter, as on the Express, takes stuff out you want left on.

Having the ability to group a bunch of dimmers is helpful when focusing conventional on rigs that have unit per dimmer, but with multiple dimmers patched to a channel.  Sometimes you don't want to see units that have not yet been focused, but want to sequentially add in the fixtures - dimmer by dimmer, as you focus a wash, as example.

Thus the OP and hopefully this is truly a new feature to the Eos/Ion OS.
