RS-232 control of projector via ION

I'm trying to control projector inputs and shutter states via RS-232 using the ION console but having difficulties.  The goal is to change inputs and shutters via cues, but for testing purposes I'm using macros.  The projector is a Panasonic DZ6700U.  It has RS-232 control options enabled.

I have the manual for the projector which indicates the syntax and codes to use. For example STXADZZ;IIS:VIDETX should change the input to video.  Of course nothing happens. Is there a special character for STX and ETX?  I've also tried sending the hex codes as well.  The projector is set to respond to all commands and the ID I'm using (ADZZ) is an ID ALL.  The ion has String TX/RX enabled to group ID's 1 thr 32.

Where would/is it possible to see the response from the projector?  I've monitored the diagnostic screen and see the send codes, but no response.

What is the baud rate and parity in/out of the ION?

When using macro's to "send string" does it send the string as is or in hexadecimal format?

I believe somewhere that some of the serial ports aren't enabled on the Ion depending on what version you have.  Is there truth to this?  How do I find out if my version works?

Of course this would be easier if the ION suppored PJLink.  Maybe some day.  :)

Thanks!

Adam
