Snapshot problem

I didn't realise that snapshots record within them when recording the faders, loaded cues. Particularly loaded cues on the grandmaster.

I'm kicking myself now for not noticing it.

I always thought of snapshots as looks you wanted to see on the desk. E.g screen layouts. Flexi and format layouts. Fader page displays.

Im sure there are benefits to having sub levels and loaded cues recorded in them to someone. But could we have a feature to just have snapshots as a pure look and display function?

  • Sam,

I'm guessing you probably got bitten by the same thing as I did a few years ago - using a snapshot triggered by a cue to do a simple Fader Page change or something like that?

And then subsequently ending up loading whichever cue was pending in the main playback when you recorded the snaphot.

Although this can be potentially disastrous if you are not aware of it, it is actually a feature. More useful for our users in the 'Live Event' (excuse the sweeping generalisation!) sector who are using multiple cuelists heavily than for traditional single cuelist environments.

A good way to avoid running into this 'problem' is to temporarily release the cuelist out of the main playback whilst you record your fader snapshots.

I have a vague memory of a conversation with Anne regarding more granularity in snapshots, but I'll leave her to comment on if/when that might happen.

  • Sam, I believe I misread your post, apologies. Regarding "Fader Snapshots", until we get more granularity (which is definitely OTL), be wary of these as they will record the state of all 300 faders. Even if you release all of your cue lists as Graham mentioned, if you alter any of your fader assignments, such as assigning a new sub to a fader, firing that snapshot will remove that new assignment, which is rarely the desired effect...

If you are trying to just change fader pages, I'd recommend writing a macro to do so.

  • Hijacking the snapshot thread a little bit:

Trigging a snapshot will alter the channel display (flexi state, for instance), but if you have happened to roll the channel display down, to show channels 200 - 400 (instead of 1 through 200) by accident (darn mouse wheel), the snapshot will NOT restore to show channel 1 - 200.

    Food for thought.

  • Your right Andrew, there a few things like that.

It also doesn't record the size of your tombstones, so you can't record a 'I forgot my glasses' snapshot, which makes the tombstones massive.
