Imported objects as FPE points

It would be nice to add the ability to use imported objects, as FPE and reference points.  Use case is as follows:

On a stage with multiple sets, to make importing aligning sets with spotting plans easier the 0,0,0 point of the model is set to the corner of the stage, not anything pertaining to the sets.  The sets finally land (maybe exactly in place, maybe a little bit off) and we want to use known architectural elements as FPE points, but where these are relative to the stage 0,0,0 point is irrelevant since each set is its own self-contained deal.  If we could import objects as a model that would align with the sets and then assign them to be FPE points we wouldn't need to try and figure out in the whole stage where everything landed . Currently we've been hacking the system by adding 4 dummy lights in VWX and then exporting them and stealing their positioning data for the FPE points we add, but it seems like an extra unnecessary hack.

  • Hi there. Sorry about the delay.  Yep, this is a good idea.   In general, as this feature set develops, we need to find way to make this faster.  For sets such as yours (or a band that travels, an approach similar to this would be very helpful.    Will get it into discussion with the gang.

    Thanks!!
