Prohibit user from advanced merging past target limits

My venue had a crash of the console caused when doing an advanced merge. The merge was passed the bounds of the target limits.

In this case it was:

  • Submasters: Start 900, End 999, Target 1000

When a user attempts to merge past a targets limit, I feel the console should prevent you from doing so. Preferably this would happen with some sort of message to tell you why, that allows you to to edit the current advanced merge, instead of having to start your merge over.

In this case the message could be (or similar):

  • "Can not perform merge. Submasters upper limit 999"
Parents
  • I feel strongly that Merge in its entirety needs to be completely reworked.  Merge is far too simplistic and often much, much further reaching than you think it is when doing a merge.

For example, merging in color palettes from another file will bring all by type data in on their original channels.  If you're trying to merge in the colors for just one channel, you need to be cognizant of what the by type data is in all of the palettes you're trying to merge in, or else you run the risk of overwriting existing color data.  Merge does not warn you about this at all.

  • I agree with you on all of that. I just wanted to get this one on the books to potentially prevent some console crashes.
