Workflow: AutoCAD 3D → Augment3d
Goal: starting from an AutoCAD 3D file, I need to import two separate elements into Augment3d:
-
Venue architecture as geometry (.obj)
-
Stage, walls, orchestra pit (pit floor as a separate surface so I can toggle it to zero).
-
File must be as lightweight as possible (geometry only, no unnecessary details).
-
-
Rigging plan as positions (.mvr)
-
All pipes/trusses in the venue.
-
Imported as true Rigging Positions so fixtures in EOS/Augment3d can be attached and referenced correctly.
-

Current advice I’ve received:
-
Export the “architecture-only” layers from AutoCAD as .obj.
-
For rigging: export the pipes into Capture or Vectorworks, define them as rigging objects, then export as .mvr into Augment3d.
-
Keep the files separated so I can swap out the .obj architecture with touring venue geometry while keeping the same rigging structure.
Has anyone here already implemented this workflow? Is this the most reliable way to get usable rigging positions into Augment3d from AutoCAD?
Thanks in advance!
