Importing capture Patchdata

Good Morning,

I'm new to The HOG Software but have used Ma in the past. I usually import all the patch data from Capture (Visualizer)  And know that there is a specific HOG 4 format to export. In the user manual i find the following explanation"

4.13.2 Importing Fixture and Patch Data from an XML File

Importing fixture and patch data into a show file adds new fixtures to the show specified in the XML document that do not already exist in the show file and also overwrites any existing data for fixtures that match the fixture type and user number data specified in the XML document. Imported data includes DMX patch records, IP address patch records, pan/tilt invert settings, patch notes, and so forth. Second, the import will schedule any fixtures specified in XML document that are not already in the show (along with any supplemental patch data or fixture information for those fixtures). Importing fixture and patch data will NEVER modify, delete, or alter any fixture programming in the show file. Importing Fixture and Patch data only adds and/or modifies the scheduled fixtures and their patch information.

To import an XML file containing fixture and patch data into a show:

  1. Fixture  Open : opens fixture window.

  2. Press the Import Patch button located at the top of the fixture window.

  3. Select an XML file to import and press okay.

  4. If the import process is successful a dialogue box will appear confirming import is complete. Press okay.

  5. If non-conforming data or errors are detected the XML import WILL NOT complete and an error dialogue box will appear. Press the details button on the error to see more information about the issues detected in the XML document. Make note of the errors mentioned in the dialogue box, make the necessary adjustments to the XML document in a separate XML editor on your PC, save the file, and then re-attempt to import.

  • I am using capture student edition. The problem with the not readable file is fixed. Seems to happen when there’s a fixture in there hog does not know from the library. But when I upload the working file, it still doesn’t work. I select the fixture import option. But than the fixture file is outdated for the hog software says the error. What is weird because I use the last version of capture. Think it should be compatible because there is a hog 4 export option.

  • Thanks for letting me know, I will get this investigated

  • One sticking point is that the fixture type names need to match exactly. I'm not 100% sure if that's down to case-sensitivity or not; it's been a while since I did a direct Capture > Hog export. I think even pre-4.1/3.21...so grain of salt here.

What I did was have 1 of each fixture I was importing in the showfile, then did an export to get the library names.

Do the Hog Export in Capture and open both files in a text editor.

Run a Find/Replace on the Capture export to confirm the names.

    Import into the Hog.

...er, I think it would have been marginally more efficient to just patch in the console since you have to go type-by-type...but it did work, and if you had a file with all the Hog-Side commonly used fixture types handy, it'd be pretty smooth in the future.

  • Well, disregard everything I just said. That must have been pre-4/1/3.21 because it no longer appears to be possible to import XML that isn't Hog showfile data. Just did a little test because I either have no life or am very conscientious about giving out false data....

Unless I'm blind, I'm not seeing anything that will import just patch data anywhere. [SadTrombone.WAV]
