ZIP drive in Hog 3 not up to date anymore!?

I tried to buy ZIP disks yesterday and I saw that it is really difficult to get some in UK. I didn't find a computer store who still stock ZIP disks. Another thing is that you also have to buy a ZIP disk drive to save backup files on your computer or save console software. So I'm just wondering if it doesn't make more sense to change the ZIP drive to a 3,5" FDD!? Is this possible?

a little while longer for the USB keys to work.. tom or brad might give us a clue when they have fully tested the new kernel.

ps, 3.5 FDD? most show file sizes when you patch are 1.6mb and please we dont want to go backwards....

if you are still stuck just burn a Backup show file to a CD R/W and use that, i think thats what most people do..
  • Glen is correct with his post..

The USB storage is still planned for the future, but I do not currently have a timeline for this feature that I can post on the forums.
  • I'm not in the UK, but Zip disks are alive and well in the USA. I have a Zip 750 which I have used for several years with other consoles and applications. In fact I've had better reliaibility with Zip disks than USB flash drives or CD-RW for archive purposes. Going to a 3.5 FDD would be step back and those are becoming a lot harder to find it seems.

On-line is probably your best bet for Zip disks. Iomega sells them direct or go to CNET shopper and they will have a pricelist compairison. Here many office and supply companies like Office Max, Office Depot, Best Buy, Comp USA sell them so I'd check on those websites or their equivelents in the UK.

My question to HES would be how hard would it be to swap the Zip 250 to 750? Same footprint and probably a minor driver or software switch. Would provide more storage while we wait for the USB flash drive. I know that seems weird with CD-RW, but for back-ups it's been my experience that Zips hold up better and Zip 750 hill holds more than a stardard CD-RW.

  • We do not have any current plans to change the hardware on the Wholehog 3 console ZIP drives. If getting media becomes difficult for users then we might pursue changes.
