Having Difficulty With Network Drive

Hi all,

is there any better paperwork in setting up the Network Drive? I've been trying it for few days and I'm still not getting anywhere. Could someone please advice?

Here's my setup:

Hog 3 (default IP: 172.31.0.1)
2 DPs (DHCP assigned IP: 172.31.255.254 & 172.31.254.255)
1 Wireless Router (IP: 172.31.0.254)
Laptop (DHCP assigned IP: 172.31.255.253)

Network Designation folder on Laptop C:\Hog 3 (Set as shared folder)

Therefore I presume the settings should be:

IP Address: 172.31.255.253
Folder: Hog 3
User: (Should this be my laptop user account or my Wireless User Name?)
Password: Password of either Laptop or Wireless
Domain: ???

Is there any other settings that should enable on my laptop? Thanks in advance!!!
  • Try this:

Server name: 172.31.255.253 (which is the laptop IP address)
    Share name: Hog 3
    Username: Laptop user account name
Password: Laptop user password (if you have one)
Domain: computer's workgroup name (best way to determine this is to right click on my computer, go to properties, computer name tab, and see the reported workgroup name)
  • Hi Chris,

I have tried the settings according to your instructions and I'm still unsuccessful. It keeps giving me the error "The action timed out".
Even with a wired connection and a defined IP address, I'm still unsuccessful.Any other clues?

I need to get this going as this console zip drive is broken. This is the 2nd time it broke down. Cd burning doesn't work properly as I'm unable to open with Hog 3PC or copy the file to my laptop. While waiting for the zip drive to be replace, I urgently need this feature to work.
  • I would also make sure that the network connection is enabled to share. Check this in the properties setting for the adpater that you are make the connection with. Then check the box next to file and printer sharing. Also chek that firewall settings with either windows or your third party virus software is not blocking it. The quick way to check this is to disable th software and try the connection again.
  • If you need further help I recommend calling our Austin support team and let's see if we can't troubleshoot this and get your network drives up and running.
  • Hi Chris,
I managed to get the zip drive replace and save the showfile into a zip disk. Still unsuccessful with the network mapping but I will try it with another PC. Thanks for your help.
