slots skipping/fading

hi,

i´m working a lot of years on H3, but i´m not behind the trick how can i fade a color slot or a gobo slot. I can´t see when the fixture is in the slot skip mode or in the slot fade mode.
it´s maybe very simple, but .......:06:
can anyone get me a help?

marco
  • If the fixture is capable of "scrolling" its' color wheel (depending on the manufacturer's firmware), then you access it by touching the encoder display bar to change the encoder mode, much the same way you change a gobo wheel from "Index" to "Rotate".

    Hope this helps.:)
  • hi marty,

I dont wont scoll the col wheel and I dont wont rotate a gobo.
what I mean is for example on an old mac 500. I know there are dmx values for skipping a slot and values to turn the wheel "analog" to the next position with a fade time. now I can set a fade time to the colwheel, but if I run it, the wheel is not current turning, more like skipping. this is what I not find on the desk. you know what I mean?

    thank´s

  • Well if it doesn't require a mode other than "slots", you must set the start and end points of your "color fade" with the encoder. Setting the points with the slot bar will probably cause the fixture to "jump" to the next slot rather than fade throught the values as if you were spinning the encoder.

    Yes?:)
  • Yes, but this means I cant use a pallete for this. mhhhh.... and this means, I cant update a col or gobo for a complete show, I must turn the col for each cue with the encoder.

  • Or simply touch the slot you want, then bump the encoder a bit and store that as either an additional palette or instead of your existing palette.
  • I remember for the H2. there I have "col.." as fixed, "col..>" as faded and "col...>>" as scroll.
  • mhhh... ok... I would say, there is a missing function.

Sure only on H3 you don't necessarily need the "Col" fixed palettes (unless you plan on doing "Change Type" later), b/c you can just use the slots for this.

[quote=Marco;35514]mhhh... ok... I would say, there is a missing function.

    What function is that?
  • adding a option on the encoder! "slot, FADE and spin"

    maybe
  • Ahhh....but that's where the beauty lies.....by being in "slot" mode you can get to "fixed" colors very quickly by using the slot bar....or be in "fade/index" mode simply by turning the encoder....no need to change modes!

    Much more elegant this way:)
  • ok, but I´m not realy shure, is a palette what I record after turning the encoder to "red" not exactly the same like the autopalette "red"?
  • nice would be, if I choose a palette, maybe "red", then I´m in slotted mode, now I will that this col is in a fade mode and I change the option on the encoder to "fade". the desk change automaticly the dmx range for the fixture to the right values.
that would be a cool deal.
    not?
  • Hmmm:33::33::33:

I see your point. Sounds like we need a feature request to change how the values are displayed.

Possibly "--red--" or "RED" if referencing a slot value, and use the current display syntax for when a wheel is in "index" mode.

Do we have one like this already logged guys, or do we need a new enhancement?
  • I have try it again on my desk. There is no way to fade a col wheel or a gobo wheel.

  • Marco,

Please send me your show file via upload.highend.com so I can have a go with the exact fixtures you have setup...

If you see the DMX values for the color or gobo wheel changing in the DMX output, then the problem is with your fixtures. Many fixtures do not allow crossfading of DMX channels for the color and gobo wheels as it tends to burn up gears. Depenending on the fixture, there may be other options using speed channels as described in this thread.

    thanks,
