It is most likely that your PC cannot locate the correct driver file for the USB link. In the meantime please try this: Start the console in test mode (hold MENU during startup) run through all the tests until memory clear. At the end of memory clear select software update (YES). Now run the software downloader file on your PC in the folder ETC/SmartSoft/ConsoleUpdates. It should recognise the console and allow you to download software. When this is complete you should find that the PC has identified the driver and will connect the console to SmartSoft. If the downloader doesn't work then something else is wrong and you need help on the phone from an engineer.
Before installing the new version of SmartSoft, please remove the previous SmartSoft installation and any shortcuts. If you have previously installed SmartSoft and the USB driver required for the live connection to a SmartFade ML console, you will need to re-run the New Hardware Wizard and point the PC toward the new USB driver included with the SmartSoft installer.
