I'm just trying to fix the LAD's on some technobeams. I got some 5mw lasers and they are a little bigger then the stock mounts. I made some mounts that fit nicely, BTW they are 5v and when I plug them strait into the lead coming from the pcb they don't come on? on the stock setup there is a small board that the LED is on, I thought that the res, cap, dio where just for the LED but guest I was wrong! dose anyone have a schematic for this small board? The reason is that one of the lights did not have a LAD. It seems that I could make it with some parts laying around.
suggestion: ditch the 5mw and install a 1 watt with its own controller and cooling module. You could burn out retinas within 1000 meters. You could mount the technobeams on a turret and have the best battle-light rig in the industry.
The PCB added some protection to help prevent the LAD from getting fried. You could probably get away without it.
A lot of those laser diodes modules are case positive so there was a reason that the LAD module had a foam gasket and plastic screws holding it in place.
If it is case positive, then you have to electrically isolate it from the rest of the chassis.
I using some aftermarket lasers that are 5v but for some reason when I plug them directly to the lead from the main board they don't come on, but they do work if I plug them into the second small aux board? again I replacing them on a few but I have one that never came with a LAD so I'm looking to make the small aux board. I'm thinking that I wouldn't need to use the LED part of the circit. to look at the traces they loop around to the LED and back the the laser. So I need to know what is needed for the LED and just what is need the run the laser?
There is nothing on that small aux board that would make a difference for you (I know...I designed it). Your issue might be the pinout is different if plugging into the main board.
Duh! supid me I went with the rule that red went to red and blk went to blk. red laser lead to black light lead and black laser to red light and...................like I said DUH!!!! seems to be working.
