SolaFrame 1000 tilt coarse movement error

Hello everyone,

Our SolaFrame 1000 is experiencing an issue where the tilt movement overshoots its maximum limit, causing it to continuously bump into the base and display a "Tilt Coarse Movement" error.

Here's what I've tried so far:

Updated to the latest firmware (v1.3.2)
Cleared all existing errors
Performed a factory reset
Adjusted the calibration settings

After a reset, the fixture operates normally for a short period. However, it then begins to gradually offset from its home position. This offset worsens over time until the fixture attempts to move beyond its maximum tilt range. Interestingly, this issue seems to occur more rapidly when stepping through multiple cues with recorded fixture movement compared to manually controlling the tilt via the console using the ML controls.

Has anyone else encountered this behavior with SolaFrame 1000s or similar moving lights? Any insights into the potential cause or further troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not much of a moving light tech, but our fixture is well past its warranty so I'm definitely not opposed to taking it apart replacing any of the hardware if needed.

Thanks in advance for your help!

-Jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan, It's most likely an issue with a sensor.  First, try reseating the connections on pan/tilt PCB and on the tilt sensors then test it. If that does not help and if you have another unit, try swapping the tilt homing sensor and test it. If it still shows the error try swapping the tilt encoder sensor. If still no luck, then try swapping the pan/tilt driver PCB. See the screenshot below for how to access everything I mentioned.
