No matter what you do you will never be able to increase the resolution of the source file. You are stuck with 640 x480.

It is kind of like trying to take an mp3 and play it on a well tuned arena sound system.....not going to sound very good.

Depending on the viewing distance to your audience, as well as the projection surface will determine how noticeable the loss of resolution is.

If it is far, and/or you have a rough, uneven, or textured projection surface then it might not look too bad.

If you're stuck with the 640x480, maybe talk the client into showing "3" versions of it across the wide screen so you can keep the native resolution. Drop in a "matte" on top of it to provide a "screen frame" and go from there....just a thought.

As Marty mentioned, trying to scale it up will not look very good. The other option (if it's available to you) is to re-render the content at the proper size.

Thanks for the info. If I have original footage shot in standard def., how do I have it re-rendered at the proper size? No matter what, aren't I stuck at the original size of the footage. As was mentioned my only real option is to blow it up & then I suffer quality loss.

I wasn't sure what your footage was...but yes, you are stuck with whatever the original shot footage is.
