I am getting ready to run some network cables to connect some portable net2 nodes to a POE switch. My campus electrician suggested CAT6 cable, but I wanted to confirm before I went to purchase it.

I know this is late for the discussion, but if you are adding infrastructure to a building, it isn't a bad idea to consider future upgrades. Infrastructure is the hardest to replace physically. The cost difference between installing Cat5E and Cat6 should be considered to determine if the extra cost is worth the expense based on projected use and expected life time of the infrastructure.
