So my Test-Um TP600 LanRoverPro has died and just refuses to not be dead....so, before I drop another $180 for a new one, any recomendations for a different/better/cheaper/whatever out there?
Thanks

I'm also looking for a good tester.
I also just want to find a simple ethercon tester. I'm tired of having to grab an adapter to convert it to straight RJ45. Sounds like a good weekend project on my time off!
When you find a good tester, let me know though. I'm totally in the market for one of those as well.
I have the Fluke LinkRunner and love it. It is not cheap cost me about $750 for the tester and kit. If I had to get a new one I would get the new version of the LinkRunner.
Here si the one I have: http://www.flukenetworks.com/enterprise-network/network-testing/LinkRunner-Network-Multimeter
Here is the new version:

For simple wiring verification, I use a Fluke Microscanner2:

Not cheaper ($300 or so), but shows wiremap, wire length and POE status and rugged as heck.
If you need to do more certification-type testing, then the LinkRunner is probably a better choice.

I also use a Fluke Networks Microscanner2 for cable verification, along with Wireshark (free, www.wireshark.org) on my laptop for more advanced diagnostics. The Microscanner2 looks to be the Fluke Networks equivalent of the TP600. Its a bit more expensive, but as was previously mentioned, its rugged as hell. Its got a great with a bright backlight that is easy to understand. You can also purchase additional receivers as needed to test multiple wiring runs. Each receiver is numbered and that number comes up on the display. Highly recommended.
