Backup system for Time Code - necessary ? ETC Gateways

Hello every one, for a touring show, running some time code, we made some thoughts about backup / redundancy with ETC SMPTE Gateways. 
 And i love to have some more oppinions. 
 Is it necessary to work out a backup system for the Time Code, and how could that look like? 
 I am greatful for any input i can get. Thanks thilda

What were seing is systems with two gateways, one main, one backup. They both get the same SMPTE signal but send their output with different IDs. The console listens to the ID of the main gateway and has a macro that changes the ID to the backup.

Yes, in case of failure the operator has to fire a macro that changes the Source ID of the respective event list in the show control tab.
