Seachanger on Ion defaults to Green

Hi all,

I just began working at a theatre with an Ion console and a few Seachangers. As I don't have extensive experience with either of these, while I have some down time I set them up to get a better understanding.

I also just upgraded the console to 1.9.12, in case that matters.

Every time I bring up the S4 the Seachanger is attached to, it comes up green. I can change the color, but it acts as though green was N/C, so everything has green in it. 

I notice that in the channel, it lists Intens and Intens 1 which is consistently at 100, and the hue is at 195 and the saturation at 2 whenever the colors are all at zero.

I'm new to Seachangers, so I could just be making a silly mistake, but I can't figure it out.

Any help would be appreciated!

    There are a number of Seachanger models. It sounds like you have the XG. Make sure the fixture profile you are using matches the model and mode of the one installed in the Source Four. I couldn't say if there are bugs in the fixture library.

    As sk8rs_dad said- make sure that you have patched the XG model.  If you have patched a model that has the dimming wheel in the 4th channel, then you will see this behavior.  You will also see the green gets more saturated as you fade the intensity up.

    Also -early Seachanger models used 6 DMX channels- later models use only 4 DMX channels.

    That's a good point- As I've just begun work here, I don't know which model I have. In a quick glance around the unit, I didn't see it printed. Do you know where it would be? 

    Also, I think (though I could be wrong) that it was working properly before I updated the board and repatched it, but I've tried repatching twice in case I made an error.

    The model number would be on a sticker on the side of the color changer mechanism.  Mine don't actually say "XG" on them, so that might not help.

    Are you using RDM?  I have had issues in the past where the RDM response from the Seachanger is not detailed enough for the EOS/ION to determine which model is connected, so it defaults to a model with a dimming wheel instead of the XG.  The only solution is to turn off RDM for those data lines and repatch the channels to be the correct type.  RDM is being reworked in the upcoming 2.0 release, so that problem will go away.

    You may need to update the fixture profile since you recently updated software there is a chance the library has been updated.

    I had issues with cxi's and the color picker after updating software. If I recall, what I did to fix it was update the fixtures profile. Just note that updating the fixture can potentially affect your existing show data.

    To update fixtures go to patch, and in patch click your fixture type. Near the bottom center of the screen there should be an "Edit" button. Click that, and then in the same area there will be an "Update Lib" button. If the text is white then there is an update for your fixture. If you want to update click it and then confirm that you do indeed want to update the fixture.

    This has been fixed!

    Turns out that it is indeed an XG unit, and I just didn't see that there was a 4 Channel XG option on the second page of the Ocean Optics Library.
