Effects not being recalled as recorded in a cue

Here's an issue that I've had for a while, and was surprised it hadn't been dealt with in the new software version.

I store channels 1 thru 6 running effect 1 into a cue, and I have adjusted the size and rate of that effect in the effect status display.

If I later recall channels 1 thru 6 from that cue, the are running Effect 1 at the size and rate of the effect as listed in its direct select, not as stored in the cue.  I would expect to have the lights do exactly what they are stored as doing in the cue, not create a new reference to the effect.

Another thing that makes it difficult to recall and reuse effects from previous cues is ordering.  That is, say I select the channels as 1, 3, 5, 2, 4, 6 instead of as 1 thru 6, then put them in effect 1, then store them in a cue.  If I recall channels 1 thru 6 from that cue, they will come up running the effect in the order I selected them for the recall operation, rather than running the effect as they were stored in the cue.

To understand why these are issues, just consider the simple request, "have 1 thru 6 do what they were doing in cue X".

  • Hm. My memory may be faulty, but I don't think effects are stored in cues. I believe an effect is only linked to a cue.

What you want to do with the ordering would work if there were only one reference to each channel in all the effect steps. But what would you do if there were more than one occurrence, such as 1, 5, 3, 2, 5, 4.  Do you just allow changes to non repeating channels? Do you group all repeats together?

The quick and easy solution is to just copy the effect and change the channel assignments as desired - then link that new effect to the cue.
