Turn on fan with lamp strike

I am trying to think of an elegant way to turn on some box fans when I strike some HMI Lamps.

I've been trying to think of a way to do it without parking the attribute or dimmer.  Anyone have a thought?

Thanks for the help.

  • Why not write a macro that brings up the box fans and then strikes the lamps?

Shouldn't be too difficult to program.

  • Not sure if this will work in your scenario, but if you were able to put the fans on a DMX relay and address that relay to +1 from the end of your HMI address range, you could copy your HMI fixture profile and add an additional control parameter to the end. Then edit the lamp controls so that when it strikes your fixture, you add a step to bring that last DMX address to 255 with a time of Hold.

Then do the inverse for Lamp Off.

I haven't done this myself, but in concept it would work.

I tried creating a "Fan" fixture type with just a single DMX slot that was a lamp control and labeling it "Lamp On" and patching it as a Part 2 to a channel with an HMI. I was hoping that since they shared the channel number and both fixtures had a "Lamp On" lamp control, that they would both run when pressing Lamp On, but it didn't seem to work.  Maybe I'm missing a step to make that work, because if it would it would mean you could patch your Fan to wherever you wanted.

  • Great idea, Thanks.

I am taking it with a different approach, which is instead of a fan attribute having it only a lamp control and having the lamp on command turn on the fan and the lamp off command turn off the fan.  Thanks for the help.
