Connecting an ion to the etc family client

Hi,

I have a laptop running windows 8, I would like to connect it to my ion console wirelessly. Then use the laptop to control the show live. Is this possible ?

Possible, yes. Recommended, no. The PC Client can connect with the console. However, you are at risk of dropping connection at any time so pressing "Go" on the client might fail.

The EOS Family Client Kit doc is the starting point. The basic recipe is:

Install EOS Family client software

Connect Client dongle to USB port on laptop

Confirm network connectivity between client and console

Confirm console is configured as primary

Launch client software as Eos Family Client

The trickiest part for most is troubleshooting the network.

If you are able to connect your client PC to the Ion via a network cable, you will have a far more reliable connection.

That is a possibility, would I still need the client kit or not ?

You need the client kit to operate independently of another user whether you're on a wired or wireless connection. You can use Mirror Mode without the dongle, but then your displays and command line etc will mirror another user of the system.

Wired connections are by far the most reliable and robust way of operating as a client.
