Designer Playback Lockout Feature

I wanted to know if there is a way a designer can be a second user (so they can change screens independently), but be locked out from being able to run cues, record, update?  I know you could remove the keyboard at the designer desk, but some have their own custom keyboard to move around the system (which means they do what they want).

  • Have you actually run into this or is it a hypothetical question ?

If an actual problem, I'd very nicely explain to the designer to please not give in to the temptation to modify levels and otherwise do what the console operator is supposed to do.  It makes for a difficult time for the operator to keep track of the things they need to do.  As example, what would happen if at a slow moment the console op' decides to hit Shift/Update as a save, while the LD is adjusting levels ?.  There's a division of labor for a reason.

  • My thoughts exactly.  Our system is going into our first full season and I can see this becoming an issue with some who want to tweak.  I think the X keys will help as I can just limit what can be done.  I just did not want to give a designer a full keyboard, thus full control.  Too much risk as you noted.
