Pixel Maps not running from Backup Ion

Hi all,

I've been in tech since Wednesday, and we had a weird problem come up in the last few days. For this show, I'm running an Eos primary (one programmer) with an Ion backup, all on the latest software. We have a small pixel map setup with a bunch of incandescent light bulbs, and we're also taking MIDI triggers from sound for some cues.

I don't have a Show Control gateway, so I tried having the Backup Ion take MIDI in, but as I learned from testing and in my most recent thread, this doesn't work. So, after a few days of teching, we swapped the Ion to the primary and used the Eos as it's backup.

However, this brought up a new problem. When I tried to play back the cues we had already recorded, the Pixel Maps seem to have been broken. Everything else in the cues works, it's just the Pixel Maps. Even if I dump out of a cue and just try to manually bring the Pixel Maps back up, I get nothing. Interestingly, when I go into Pixel Maps Edit and Flash a range of channels, that works perfectly - and if I bring up the individual channels of the things I'm controlling, that also works. The only way I can get my system to output Pixel Maps is by restoring the Eos to the primary - but this means that I can't take MIDI in anymore.

I spoke to Hans yesterday to try to resolve this, and we weren't able to figure anything out. There's also the underlying concern that if the Backup did ever have to take control in a show situation, it theoretically wouldn't play back the Pixel Map information.

I'm happy to send along logs and the show file, but this just seems like a really odd behavior. Is there anything obvious that I could be missing here? Anyone ever seen something like this?

Thanks!

  • Hi Michael,

It certainly couldn't hurt to try and reinstall the pixel map updates. If you are seeing the media tiles in ML Controls and seeing the Pixel Map Preview on the Ion console, then that likely isn't it.

I think I may have mentioned this yesterday, but can you send in the logs and showfile from the Ion when you have a chance, and a particular date/time when you played back a pixel map and it didn't work? Send it in to hh <at> etcconnect <dot> com.

    Thanks!

    Hans
