Our school has an ETC Ion lighting console as well as a Yamaha ls9 soundboard. They both have MIDI. My question is: can I tell the Ion to move to next/previous cue via a MIDI command from the LS9?
Thanks,

Midi comes in different flavors. Midi show control is one of them, there is also midi control change, program change and some others. And while I'm not an expert for sound consoles, I think an ls9 only supports the latter midi protocols but not msc.
Eos family consoles can output midi control and program change ( through the midi raw feature ) but they won't interpret such input...

Thank you for the input.
After looking through the manual and talking with Yamaha customer service, I learned that changing cues isn't an option but there are plenty of other things that are.
Actually this is possible, maybe not directly from the LS9 but the ION will take midi inputs in the Show Control to execute commands. A buddy of mine did a haunted house last year and connected a bunch of iMACs connected wirelessly to a Main iMAC running QLab. Basically as people hit certain triggers around the house, they were connected to the iMACs with QLab which would send a signal to the Main iMAC which would send a MSC Signal to the ION.
He had multiple cue lists that would be triggered, as well as sequences that would advance each time a trigger was pressed.
Its been a long time since I've works on an LS9 but I'm pretty sure it will put out Midi show control. If it puts out another flavor of midi, you could use a Mac with qlab to interpret the signal and convert it to execute a command on the ION.
