Submasters and intelligent fixtures

issue 1: how do you know, that e.g. pan and tilt are not programmed onto this submaster? it all comes down to how you recorded the sub. let's say 1 is a conventional and 2 is a moving light. 1 at 50 enter. do you know press Record Sub 1 Enter? then it has already happened. Chan 1 Record Sub 1 Enter would have been the right syntax. you can go and "fix" your submasters in Blind: Blind Sub 1 Enter. Chan 2 at Enter will remove anything concerning channel 2  from this sub.

you can always check which source is contributing a value: About Chan 1 Enter. Current Values will show for each parameter which source is commanding at the moment.

issue 2: are you sure, that you have only Red on the R sub and only Green on the G sub and only Blue on the B sub?
let's say Chan 3 is an RGB. Record Sub 2 Enter, will record everything, Chan 3 Record Sub 2 Enter will record everything for Chan 3, Chan 3 Red Record Sub 2 Enter will only record Red for channel 3.
to fix your submasters, you can do the same thing like for issue 1: Blind Sub 2 Enter. on the Red fader: Chan 3 Blue Green at Enter, will remove green and blue. be aware that a value of 0 and no value at all are NOT the same thing.

I did not realize that you could record only certain values into a sub. I will play with this. I have always only brought up what I wanted the stage to look like and then recorded the entire look into a sub. However, I am not sure that I know how to tell it to only look at the color channel. Any hints on how to do that.

One way is to set the color you desire.  No need to set any other attributes as the sub won't act upon them, but in case you have beam, position, image and intensity at values, then set the intensity to zero and then;

Record, Sub, XX, (Hold Shift key), Minus, Beam, Focus, Form, Enter

I'm not at the desk, but believe those are the other-then-color attribute keys on the upper right of the desk.  But the intent is to filter out the other attributes and just capture Color.

This is as BTW, only one way to do this.  Youi can also, if recording a bunch of subs, use the Filter page (left of the CIA) as well.

O.K., I have attached the show file. I attempted to follow the suggestion and although I can choose a specific color when saving the submaster, it still has the same effect.

The subs are 36 - 38 and the channels in question are 600-613

Any help would be appreciated.

So it looks like Sub 36 is LED's in Red. Is that the only thing you want that sub to do? Not sure what console you're using, but the easiest thing to do if you only want Red LED's in Sub 36 would be to re-record the sub.

1) Blind

2) Delete Sub 36. Confirm the delete.

3) Sub 36 Enter. (To recreate sub 36).

4) 600 thru 613 Red Full Enter. Now Only Red will be at 100% in the Sub. One way to get Red to post to the command line would be to click the tile labeled Red in the CIA. Tiles are located to the left of the browser in the CIA.

5) Do this same procedure for all the other colors.

If you like the rest of the sub, but just want to get rid of the other colors in the sub try the example below:

1) Go to Blind Sub 36 and have the format in table view so you can see all your parameters.

2) Select your channel(s). I'm using just channel 600 as an example.

3) Next to the browser in the CIA there are tiles, and tiles with colors should be posted there. Click the Green, Blue, and White Tiles. This should post for example, "Chan 600 Green Blue White" to the command line.

4) Press [At] then Press [Enter]. This should leave only the Red with a level of 100 and take the 0's away from the Green, Blue, and White columns. Now channel 600 in Sub 36 won't be able to control the other colors. The other colors were at 0 in the sub, so that's probably why you had issues mixing colors.

In a sub you can always use [At] [Enter] to get rid of anything else you do not want.

I forgot one thing. I don't have LED units, and I don't have time now to mess around with your show file offline, but you may need the Master Intensity of the LED units on a separate sub for this to work. If you have the intensity Full in all the color Subs they may conflict. You may have to experiment both ways.

Your sub 37-38 should work as you think, if I understand what you are doing correctly.  You need to get all the data for movers and subs out of the other subs.  For example, when you mix the color you want with LEDs, then bring up area 1, you will force the values of the LEDs from the area 1 sub.  First you should clean out the channels in subs that are not important to that sub.  For example, get rid of moving lights moves and led colors.

The fastest way to do this that I can think of is in blind sub 1 type 1 thru (end channel) - select active @ enter.  This will take the values out of channels that have nothing to do with your areas.  Once this is done, and you do what bosox suggested to other subs then you should be in business. 

Also look into record only function when creating new subs.
