Using EOS NOMAD dongle as Backup Console

I have a question about the new upcoming NOMAD dongle for EOS. I understand that the NOMAD 256 dongle only gives me a 1/2 universe if I use my laptop as the primary console, but what about using my laptop as a backup console to an ION assigned as the primary? Will having a backup console with only 256 outputs restrict the outputs of the primary too?

It's crunch time for me since the Client Kit will be discontinuing soon and the 256 output restriction makes the NOMAD unusable as a portable in-the-house editor.

I assume you currently have a Client dongle--In the future we will no longer be selling "Client Kits" as the new part will simply be Nomad 256. A client dongle today will give you the ability to still be a client as before, or be a primary/backup. As for how much it can back up, only 256 outputs. It basically would downgrade the Ion to 256 outputs of total backup.

Just checking, but will current client kits be "upgraded" to the same functionality as the Nomad 256?

I always assumed not, but it would be great for those of us who already own quite a few client kits and probably lessen the confusion between, client only dongles vs 256 output dongles.

Yes, a current client dongle will be upgraded to a Nomad 256. New Nomad 256 dongles and current client kits will be identical in features but have a different physical look.

Just a clarification... your current Eos client dongle will work just as is as a Nomad 256. When Nomad begins shipping (June), it will be available in 256, 1024, 1536 and 2048 outputs. You will be able to upgrade a Nomad 256 to higher output counts at a later date. It is worth noting that the current client dongle will not be able to be upgraded to 1024 and higher.

Will my current EOS Client Dongle also work as a Cobalt Nomad Dongle? With 256 parameter outputs that is.

The current EOS client dongle will work as a Nomad 256 Dongle to run Cobalt 7.1.0 or higher software with up to 256 outputs. It will not work with Cobalt 7.0.2 or earlier software.

As is the case with using the dongle with Eos Software, it wil not be possible to upgrade the dongle to output more than 256 outputs in Cobalt either.

Conversely the Congo Client /Cobalt Nomad (the original version) dongles will not be able to run Eos software. due to some limitations.
